About my work

Under the supervision of Prof. Willy Kley, I completed my diploma thesis "Simulating dust agglomerate collisions with Molecular Dynamics methods: fragment statistics and the bouncing problem" in the Computational Physics group.
My colleague Alexander Seizinger implemented a theoretical model for the interaction between two monomers into a nice code.
More details on the theory can be found in the papers by its inventors C. Dominik and A. G. G. M. Tielens, for example "C. Dominik and A. G. G. M. Tielens. The physics of dust coagulation and the structure of dust aggregates in space. ApJ, 480:647-674, 1997".
Based on this code, I performed simulations of dust agglomerate collisions and analyzed the collision outcome in terms of fragment mass, velocity and angle distributions. Also, I took a closer look on circumstances under which dust agglomerates can bounce off each other.

In December 2011, I started my PhD work at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology under the supervision of Michael Habeck. I am working on Monte Carlo equlibrium sampling methods for protein structure analysis.

About me

In my spare time I've been doing a lot of rock climbing for about six years now. So far, I've only been (with a few exceptions) sports climbing at crags near Tuebingen (the Swabian Alps, sandstone crags in the Black Forest) and I also love to travel to all the beautiful climbing spots within a 10h drive - Val di Mello, Finale Ligure, Ticino, the Vosges, the Pfalz...
I also love alpine sports climbing, but for "serious" alpine climbing, I am lacking experience and don't trust enough in my capabilities when a route is both difficult and not well protected. Besides rock climbing, I really like skiing, at which I am still at a beginners's level, but I'm desperate to improve my skills.

Apart from sports, I love making music and so I've been playing the piano for about seven years and I'm also participating in some projects of the choir Altensteiger Vokalensemble.

I have also been learning Italian for one and a half year, which is really fun and useful.
