Bad Honnef Physics School
Information about the Project on Numerical Hydrodynamics
Time: Thursday, 28.June, 14:00-18:00
Idea:
In this project the participants are invited to write a short computer programme
on their own to solve the Linear Advection Problem.
This is often taken as a simple example for hydrodynamic problems.
Basic Introduction to numerical Hydrodynamics
Slides to be shown at the School.
An Online Book
on Computational Hydrodynamics for Astrophysicists. See in particuar Chapter 3 for details on Advection.
The Pyro Hydro Code for it.
Programming Languages
Python:
Offers an interactive approach to programming. Easy to learn and write programes. Simple way to visualise.
A very nice introduction can be found in the book: Computational Physics by Mark Newman
From his webpage sample programs and
chapters are freely available.
C/C++
Today's Standard Programming language for scientific programs.

Support
Guidance and specific help to the project will be given by Daniel Thun (PhD student) and Willy Kley.
